What I'm Wearing: Busy Bee

So guys, I've totally neglected my baby. My blog should turn me in for abuse. I've just been so busy and when I'm not busy it seems I've been too lazy. Even though my pictures did not turn out good I decided to woman up and get a post together. :)

This past Saturday I had a busy day. We put on a fashion Knee Length Prom Dresses show for work to show off our fall/back-to-school collection and I was in charge of models and putting the looks together. I went into high stress (read: psycho) mode when several models I had booked flaked on me last minute. So guess who got her bootay up on the runway? You guessed it, this girl right here, and let me tell you I worked it out. My inner diva so needed that.

Anyway the outfit above is what I wore with the intention of styling models backstage. I paired black skinnies with a red cami, cheetah inset black blazer, statement necklace and Dalmation print, bow-adorned heels.view more

Pants and Blazer: Maurices, Statement Necklace: Clothes Mentor,
Handbag: Vintage from Antique Store, Heels: Style & Co (gift from mom)

Then after the fashion show/ work I had a wedding reception to run off to, so I went home and changed as quickly as possible into a dress and heels and went back out the door. The sun going down created a lot of awkward shadowing in all of these pics, so ignore that :)

Well guys, I finished my second Warrior Dash. It was an awesome time, even though I could not move the next day.  In typical Kassi fashion, I decided to stand out a bit by putting a lovely plastic tiara on my head and a sash that read 2012 Warrior Princess. This was a last minute decision that caused my brother to tell me he would be running nowhere near me. Pffft. What fun is that?

I came to run this bad boy with all guys and at 3/4 a mile in it was becoming clear that with my lack of training (Read: No running whatsoever) I was not going to be able to keep up. As I told them to go on ahead, some lovely ladies said I could run with them and I had a great time laughing and making friends along the way!

Hello, Ladies and Gents! I hope you all have an absolutely fabulous weekend! I'm heading out for a few days. Wish I could say it was going to be relaxing, but instead I will be running the Warrior Dash for the second year in a row. The difference this year? I haven't ran at all in a long time. This could get interesting. I will probably throw up or die, or throw up then die. Good times. In all seriousness though, it is a good time. I have no plan of breaking the land speed record or anything so there will be no need to look for my name in the Guiness.view more

Hello, loves! Today I may have got a little sparkle crazy with my outfit, but sometimes a girl just needs to feel like a classy disco ball. Am I right? I paired silver metallic flecked shorts with an embellished tank, a simple blazer, bow and bling adorned flats and bow earrings. So my mom bought me these shoes the other day and I think they are so amazing.  It's hard to tell all of the details (see picture below) but they are a beautiful blue sparkly material with a gorgeous embellishment. Swoon. I loved them so much I knew I needed to build an outfit around it.view more

Hello my loves! Hope you all have been enjoying your weekend. I know I have! Yesterday, I was invited out to a local (and totally charming) tea house to have lunch with my mom and two of her best friends. First of all let's just roll it out there that I am not that into tea. Never have been, but I love gourmet lunches so how could I say no? So how does one even dress for tea? I'm not gonna pretend to be all high society, when clearly I'm not, but it was totally fun putting together a tea time look.

When I think of having tea, I think of dignified ladies wearing hats and gloves. One out of two isn't bad, right? I broke out a Jason Wu for Target dress that has been hanging in my closet with the tags on it for way too long, belted it with a striped belts and finished the look with some red peep-toe pumps. I thought the overall look was tea house appropriate and the meal was absolutely delicious.view more

Another Couture Myth Buster

Bouchra Jarrar couture.

Bouchra Jarrar belongs to the modern couture camp. Her day clothes tend to be masculine-influenced, with long, sleeveless jackets and Perfectos with black trousers, while she returns again and again to sparingly cut dresses in silk. The refinement showed this season in dresses that beautifully combined blush pink, ivory and beige, and skimmed over the body. What perhaps isn’t obvious is the texture of her original fabrics, like a heavy silk woven from multiple shades of cream and ivory for her jackets. A black-and-white silk weave, used for sharp jackets, suggests an industrial material. Her clothes demand that you look close — at the amount of asymmetry in her designs, at the careful way she sets a zipper, so that the silver teeth become the merest line of decoration.view mroe

A Norman Hartnell designed gown, worn by Princess Margaret when she presented an award to the Swedish pop group ABBA in the late 1970s.

Fashion —
particularly 1970s and early ’80s fashion — is having a bit of a moment in London.
On the heels of its blockbuster exhibition devoted to the style of David Bowie, a show that has been drawing huge crowds since it opened in March (and that runs through Aug. 11), the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington is about to unveil an exhibition that takes a close look at the club-inspired styles Long Prom Dresses of London in the 1980s.
Called “Club to Catwalk,” the show, which opens on Wednesday and runs through Feb.16, 2014, features the distinctive looks of the young British designers just beginning to make their names then — among them, Katherine Hamnett, Jasper Conran, Paul Smith and John Galliano — as well as the influences of the gender-bending night-life fixture Leigh Bowery and the New Romantic pop star Adam Ant.view mroe

Since they formed six short years ago surf-punk group The Drab Doo Riffs have accomplished plenty. The Auckland-based five-piece has opened for a string of big name acts including The Cult and Blondie, toured the country extensively, and apparently they have even licensed music to Mountain Dew soda. All fine notches but, somewhat surprisingly, they haven’t yet released an album. There is a method to the madness. The group, which is becoming increasingly known for its brand of 1960s throwback rock ‘n’ roll on hyperdrive, has just release the fourth in a series of well-received EPs. Speaking from his Thames home following the sell-out release party for the Aquatic Ape Theory EP, Drab Doo Riff ringleader Karl Steven explains that the shortened format suits the group’s punchy style.
“I guess it’s just unpretentious, that’s the way I feel about it, and it’s not intimidating for us as artists,” says Steven. “With an album you usually empty out your whole catalogue, unless you are incredibly prolific. You know, you take all your best songs and you use them up and then you are left with nothing and you have to start again. I don’t like that rhythm so much. By doing EPs we are always able to have a few up out sleeve for the next record.”view more

A bread and butter letter is a handwritten thank you note usually expressing gratitude for G-rated overnight hospitality. It got its name from being delivered at eleven o’clock the next morning, when the ex-hosts were eating – you guessed it – bread and butter! Sarah Firmston saw the phrase in an olden day etiquette book and thought it perfectly encapsulated the vibe and ethos of the business she owns with good friend Rose Howcroft. The Bread and Butter Letter, on 225 K’Rd, is full of reasonably priced, locally designed goodies – clothing, jewellery, homewares, accessories, teas, and anything crafty or cute. TRS804: Richmond Mural Project Update, Gaia and Ever finish up

Gaia finished up his piece on the corner of Rowland and Main St. today. You might recognize this wall from an earlier post during the RMP that showed an outline that had been started by local tattoo artist Jesse Smith. Because of problems with the lift and some other administrative issues, Jesse was not able to finish in the window of time he had allotted for his mural so the wall was passed on to Gaia. He produced a very Richmond-esque piece that features a monument labeled “Smith" for Captain John Smith holding a ship. Smith was a British soldier who “left his mark" on the Jamestown region of Virginia and was the beneficiary of the generous actions of Pocohontas and other indigenous peoples of the area. The James River is rising over the landscape in front of the monument and provides a stark contrast to most of RVA’s monuments which look out over the lush greenery of Monument Avenue or the Richmond Capitol building.view more
Being in a band with members all across the country can be extremely difficult, but imagine playing in a band with members who also live in Europe as well. This is reality for Red Dons, the punk rock quintet whose members reside in LA, Portland, Rhode Island, and London, and who play in RVA this Saturday. All of the members originally hailed from Portland, but everyone in the band has moved around extensively throughout their lives, and Burns mentions that between the four of them that are currently in the band, they’ve collectedly lived in Louisiana, California, Germany, Thailand, and Jordan as well.view more

Twerkin' It: Epic Fest 2013 (Part I)

Image
This year’s Epic Fest has officially ended. Promoters from Slapdash have said that the festival was a great success, with excellent turnouts at all five shows that were held over the four days of the event. I ended up attending two different nights of the fest: Project Wake Up at Infuzion on Wednesday, and The Twerk Shop at Kingdom on Friday. Having never actually been to a hip hop show, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. What I could gather from what I knew about the people performing at each show and the venues themselves, Sexy Prom Dresses I could tell that Project Wake Up was going to be a more local-oriented showcase of rappers and emcees, and Twerk Shop was going to be a big ass-dance party.view more
